Tape Recorder Test Tapes:

Test Tapes are recorded 'Full-Track', that is across the entire width of the tape.
This means a 2 inch test tape can be used to align both a 24 track machine or a 16 track machine...
So you usually only need ONE test tape width made with BOTH 15 ips and 30ips Calibration Tones.

For fully PROFESSIONAL STUDIO RECORDERS:
The 'Normal' "OPERATING LEVEL" test tape I recommend is a "+6" level (355nWb/m)

For Semi-Pro recorders:   Tascam, Sony, Otari 5050's, Revox and so on...
The 'Normal' "OPERATING LEVEL" test tape I recommend is a "+3" level (250nWb/m)

The Test Tapes I use are CUSTOM made by MRL.

A few 'new' folks are also making test tapes now, some do a good job, others don't.
Way back in 2008 we stopped selling Test Tapes ourselves....
